The complimentary copy of your book can be sent to you or you can opt for us to give it away. We have a couple authors who do not want to receive their complimentary copies and have asked us to give them away to readers or to a local library. You can get your complimentary copy mailed to you upon request, providing your print book is available, or you can let us know if you want us to give the copy away. We only send or donate paperback books.
Our print prices tend to be a bit higher because we are a digital publisher so our books are POD. However, we choose to offer a traditional 55% wholesale discount to bookstores, retailers, libraries, schools, etc. Why? Because this is the standard discount offered by bigger publishers. Why do we do this as a small, digital publisher? Because we want our authors to have a better chance of getting their books into their local stores and libraries since we do not allow returns.
We price our ebooks between $0.99 and $6.99. We want our books to be competitive in the indie and traditional markets. We want books to be affordable for readers. At $0.99 to $2.99, we are able to submit books for far more promotions and our goal is to get as many readers’ hands on your book as possible. This is harder to do with a “full price” ebook as an independent digital publisher because this cuts away a lot of the promotional opportunities available to us.
The average traditionally published title (with a large publisher) can expect to sell 3,000 copies in its lifetime. The average independently published title (with an indie publisher or self-published) can expect to sell less than 1000 copies in its lifetime. With that said, from January 2024 to December 2024, Harbor Lane Books has sold over 5000 books between twenty published authors. This is pretty incredible.
